Dye sublimation requires special inks, transfer paper & a heat press. Any clothing or soft textile needs to be polyester. With polyester, the pores of the material open under the high temperature & pressure of the press. The inks on the transfer paper become a gas which transfers into the polyester & gets trapped within the pores once the item has cooled down.
For hard items like mugs, tiles, drink bottles etc, the object must be created with a polymer coating to allow the transfer. The dye sublimation process has great wear capabilities due to this. On both soft & hard textiles, the images won’t rub off or flake – mugs etc. are able to be washed in the dishwasher.
Because of the above, this process is only suitable for 100% polyester textiles, or specially treated products. One final issue is that it is only suitable for white or light coloured objects. Contact us above to discuss your needs.
